Life as a small Indian village girl from 1980s is much different from 2009 Big Apple working mom. World has become a potroast of values which differ across regions , time and cultures, and I dont know how many of us get confused about right and wrong in day to day life. I am not talking about big decisions in life, but those small daily dilemmas!
SUBWAY: As a child , I used to offer seats in public bus to elderly or pregnant women. I used to get a lovely smile in return. I was on subway today when an elderly man ( in his 60s) came in. I was not sure if I would look ridiculous if I offered my seat to him & he rejected. I was also not sure if I will embarass him, if I offer my seat to him as that would be calling him 'weak'! I always get confsed about what to do in the subway.
I had experienced the 'new to city' look whenever I said a 'sorry' in subway. Always felt that we have a different set of ethicates when we are underground!!
